Prayer
for Wisdom for Public Officials Day 28
(October 21, 2008) Exemplary Lives A nation’s leaders must lead first by
example. Scripture for Reflection and
Preparation (HCSB) 1 Timothy
2:1-4 “1 First of all, then, I urge that
petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for
kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and
quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and
it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Proverbs
31:3-9 “3 Don't
spend your energy on women or your efforts on those who destroy kings. 4 It is not for kings,
Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine or for rulers [to desire] beer. 5 Otherwise, they will
drink, forget what is decreed, and pervert justice for all the oppressed. 6 Give beer to one who is
dying, and wine to one whose life is bitter. 7 Let him drink so that he
can forget his poverty and remember his trouble no more. 8 Speak up for those who
have no voice, for the justice of all who are dispossessed. 9 Speak up, judge
righteously, and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy.” Proverbs
14:34 “34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any
people.” Preparation
